House of the Rising Sun is a traditional folk song with no clear origin and original version. The oldest known recording of the song House of the Rising Sun, under the title "Rising Sun Blues", is by Appalachian artists Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster, who recorded it in 1933.

The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the British rock band The Animals, was a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and in the US and Canada. -
