The region's only accredited burn center is celebrating its 40th anniversary serving Kansas and Western Missouri. Burnett Burn Center is accredited for both adult and pediatric burns, the only burn center in the region to have either accreditation.

In fact, The University of Kansas Hospital's Burnett Burn Center was one of the country's first to receive American Burn Association verification. Earning national verification means a burn center meets rigorous standards and is staffed, trained and equipped to treat the most critical burn injuries.

Richard Korentager, MD, chair of plastic surgery and burns, said the accreditations for adult and pediatric burns does matter.
