Driving the Platform at Deutsche Bahn with Crossplanes Provider-Argocd - Dennis Murtic, Deutsche Bahn; Jan Willies, Accenture

The platform of Deutsche Bahn is centered around declarative manifests which describe the desired state- not only of applications but also of their dependencies: infrastructure, source code repo, ci/cd software, etc At the heart of the platform are two open source projects: Argo CD and Crossplane. In this presentation we will go into detail on how the platform team at Deutsche Bahn solved the challenges they encountered when designing and operating the service for their users. We will start with an overview of the platform and how it’s being used by internal app teams. Next, we will focus on the onboarding process in Argo CD and the solution the team has implemented. Then we will go through smaller and larger challenges in integrating Argo CD and Crossplane. Along the way the team has built and open sourced a Kubernetes controller to integrate Argo CD smoothly into the platform. We will finish with a summary and lookout on what is next for the platform and the open source project.
