Some parties, like Jamaat-e-Islami, want a new voting system.
They want proportional representation, or PR.
They say it will stop vote rigging and corruption.
But experts say it will not help much.

Bangladesh now uses the first-past-the-post system.
The July Charter planned two houses in parliament.
The lower house would use the old system.
The upper house would use proportional representation.
Jamaat agreed to this plan before.
Now they want PR for the lower house too.

In PR, people vote for a party, not a person.
Party leaders choose who becomes MP.
This gives more power to the top leaders.
Voters get less control.

BNP wants the upper house to follow the lower house results.
That would make both houses almost the same.
Then the upper house would not be useful.

Jamaat is a small party.
PR would help them get some seats.
They may also want to pressure BNP or delay the election.

PR sounds fair, but it is hard to do now.
It needs time and fair rules.
For now, Jamaat’s demand looks political, not practical.
