Five years back, I hit a low point and felt totally lost. I realized that unless I made some big changes, my current way of life would come to an end.

This was when I kicked off my Grit & Grace Transformational Journey. Over the past 267 weeks, I’ve felt like a caterpillar going into a cocoon, transforming into a butterfly—never looking back to my old ways.

In this interview with Yuriy Mayba, the founder and lead singer of Hardie Avenue, I openly share my insights and experiences gained as I was entering the journey.

At this point in my recovery and growth, I can honestly admit my mistakes, regrets, bitterness, and shame. But honestly, it’s only the start.

I wasn't addicted to sex, drugs, or alcohol; I was addicted to myself. I was so caught up in fleeing from my personal demons that I didn't realize my ambition for success and wealth was actually pulling me deeper into those demons rather than away from them.

I was kind of caught up in imposter syndrome, always buying into the stories I told myself—like I wasn't good enough or deserving of everything I have: my wife, kids, and all my success. I was like a victim of my past traumas, not really confronting the deeper issues from those events. Instead, I let them hide behind a mask of self-destruction, thinking there was no way out.

I realized that the only way to finally get rid of these demons was to let go of control and start living by the rules and practices of Jesus. As a former bounty hunter and Marine, that wasn't exactly second nature to me.

In this interview, I share my backstory. Over the coming weeks, I will provide updates from the last five years. This was my first interview as I started the Grit & Grace Transformation Challenge.
