"A perfect example of an industry that requires CCS, to decarbonize, is the cement industry. Even friends and people not related to our work get a little bit shocked when they are told that the emissions from decomposing calcium carbonate, limestone, to make cement and lime, are comparable to the emissions of the whole travel sector before covid. To avoid that emission into the atmosphere, you can only do two things: 1. to stop producing cement and lime. And that is impossible because it's really a commodity or really commodities in any developed societies, or 2. to put the co2 back in the ground, there is no other option in that case. Of course, that opens many avenues and possibilities, how do you do that? And we are very interested in one particular process scheme that is the core of our expertise, which is calcium looping, even the name tells you that is to do with calcium and looping. It's about proper handling of the materials that intervene in the cement and in the lime making. And we are very optimistic at the moment of the applicability of these processes to decarbonize other industries, like the steel industry, that also are great consumers of of calcium products."
