Meta has officially launched its Twitter rival, Threads, globally, including in India. The new app is available to download for free on Google Play for Android and the Apple Store for iPhones. Meta is positioning the app as an Instagram extension, though it is very much a standalone platform with features copied directly from Twitter. For instance, users can publish a series of connected posts directly inspired by Twitter threads. To attract Instagram customers, verified users on Instagram automatically get a blue tick on Threads when they sign up.
