Watercolor Poppies - Drawing and painting

Описание к видео Watercolor Poppies - Drawing and painting

In this video I will be sharing my method of drawing and painting poppies. Right now, these are covering the hillsides with beauty and color. I created and painted a couple different versions showing various angles of the poppies, including a few buds.

I have chosen to use mainly primary colors and allow the red and yellow to mix together to create a beautiful hue of orange that I couldn’t buy in a tube. This is primarily a wet-in-wet technique aside from the first layer of petals wet on dry paper.

My paper today is a beautiful and thick 100% cotton paper by @arches, “rough” 140# watercolor paper, which has A LOT of texture and absorbs a lot of the water from my brush.
I would not recommend this for a beginner, as it can be a little tricky to get used to. I have provided a link below to the Arches 140# cold-pressed paper, which I typically use and is of great quality.

I am also helping the paint to blend by “pulling” the paint specifically in the petal I dab or dot in the red paint and then go back with a dryer brush with less water and help pull the paint into the yellow petal with the tip of my brush.
