Original airdate: 11/15/2017 | CUMRU TWP., Pa. - Another lost family cat has been put down after being taken to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.

Christina Lesher and her son's girlfriend, Samantha Curran, both of Fleetwood, got the call Monday that their Siamese mix, Sir Didymus, was found, after he went missing for one day, but she said the ARL told her the cat wasn't there.

It turns out, the cat had been euthanized for posing a hazard to employees. Officials said employees couldn't find the cat's microchip after two scans.

"The last person came in and said, 'We identified your cat, the one we euthanized. We finally scanned again for the third time and it is your cat and we're so sorry,' but that's never going to bring him back," said Lesher.

This is the second family pet euthanized by the shelter in the past five weeks. In October, a cat named Violet, owned by an Exeter Township family, was put down after just hours in the shelter. The employee who put the cat down without approval no longer works there.
