The growth mindset intervention developed by Dweck (2006) helps students understand that they are neither good nor bad at any subject but can use the right strategies to improve. This contrasts with a fixed mindset, which suggests that our abilities are innately fixed; we are either good or bad at something, and there is not much we can do to change that. In fact, neuroscience tells us that our brains are malleable, and that learning is always possible. These ideas are presented in an intervention that has been studied extensively in schools, typically American high schools. Over the past year, we have adapted this intervention to our CEGEP population and made it specific to the context of John Abbott College. In this workshop, we will inspire and guide you to adapt it to your CEGEP.
