The Lucid Air is one of the most anticipated electric sedans on the market, so I had high expectations when I picked up the car.

Lucid is headquartered in California and is in fact majority-owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. Lucid cars are produced Arizona in the US and in August 2024 they will also open a production facility in Saudi Arabia.

Size-wise it is very similar to a Porsche Taycan, almost to the centimeter. The Lucid measures 497.5 cm in the length and with mirrors it is 219.8 cm wide. The weight is approximately 2500 kg.

The Lucid Dream Edition excels with a WLTP range of up to 861 km, its enormous power of 1126 HP (in boost mode) and it has a large battery with 112 kWh net capacity. The top speed is 270 km/h, and 0-100 will take just 2.7 sec.

And of course, the design – it looks very impressive and different, like something from another planet.

Currently you can buy the Lucid in the US, Canada, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands and in UAE and Saudi Arabia. More markets will follow as Lucid brings more models to market.

Now, Lucid aims at being a pure luxury brand rather than a volume brand, but even then, sales have been slow. This will likely change when the Lucid Gravity SUV will go on sale late 2024. Lucid produced just 8,428 vehicles in 2023 and expects to produce 9,000 vehicles in 2024. This is less than Bentley!

On the road, the Lucid Air Grand Touring is a joy to drive. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet, thanks to the advanced suspension and excellent sound insulation.
