This week, polypropylene prices dipped in Southeast Asia but stayed stable across other parts of Asia. Rising crude oil prices and the depreciation of Asian currencies against the US dollar have dampened market sentiment.

In Southeast Asia, PP spot offers matched last week’s levels, but sellers struggled as buyers were cautious and held off on deals. Year-end holidays may slow trade further. Oversupply in China and new production facilities could weigh on prices. If freight rates normalize in Q1 2025, Chinese exports to Southeast Asia may increase.

In China, domestic PP prices trended downward due to a seasonal lull, weak commodities, and bearish futures. However, converters actively restocked inventories.

In India, PP prices remained unchanged as buyers were cautious ahead of the December 24th BIS certification for imports, with domestic prices remaining competitive.
