Terry Welch will present a collector’s view of tradition and diversity in modern Japanese paintings focusing on the works of three artists: Tanomura Chokunyū, Hirai Baisen and Shirakura Nihō.

Terry Welch is a leading collector of modern Japanese art. The exhibition Transformation: Modern Japanese Art is based on a recent gift from Mr. Welch of 126 Japanese paintings, ceramics and lacquerwares to HoMA. Works from his collection have also been featured in exhibitions at the Seattle Art Museum, the Portland Art Museum, the Kaluz Museum, the Iago Museum Oaxaca, and the Textile Museum of Oaxaca.
