Pruning Japanese Maple in Late Spring (Development Phase)

In this video, we will show you how to prune a Japanese maple bonsai tree in late Spring. After all leaves are hardened off, late Spring is a good time to do light pruning on a healthy tree to clean up some vigorous leaves/branches to re-direct energy, increase airflow and allow sunlight to reach inner part of tree to encourage internal buds to grow!

You want to wait to do any major pruning till late summer/even winter as a Japanese maple tree may bleed.
