Giving medications using an ENFit feeding tube and non-ENFt syringe.
Important. These instructions are only for children who use ENFit feeding tube supplies and accessories. If you are not sure if your child has ENFit supplies and accessories for their feeding tube, please contact a member of their health-care team.
Supplies. Medication, ENFit bottle cap, syringes, ENFit feeding tube, ENFit universal adapter to use non ENFit products on ENFfit feeding tubes.
Step 1. Wash your hands thoroughly using soap and water.
Step 2. Prepare medication as directed by your health-care team using the non-ENFit syringe.
Step 3. Flush the tube with water as instructed by your health-care team. This will help to prevent blockages when giving the medication.
Step 4. Connect the ENFit universal adapter to the ENFit tube by removing the cap from the tube and twisting the adapter in a clockwise direction onto the feeding tube. Then connect the non-ENFit syringe to the ENFit universal adapter.
Step 5. Give the medication at a rate your child can tolerate. Note: After giving medications, always flush the tube with water as instructed by your health-care team.
Step 6. Disconnect the syringe and the adapter by twisting the adapter in a counterclockwise direction. Note: Always disconnect the adapter from your child's feeding tube after use.
Inspect the moat (the open space inside the feeding tube connector) and clean the tube after giving medications to prevent buildup. Put the cap back on the tube.
Step 7. Clean and store the supplies as instructed by your health-care team. Remember we're here to help. If you are not sure what to do, contact a member of your child's health-care team.
