We skipped the full Ring Road to focus on the southwest and made Reykjavík our home base. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your trip—no need to take notes; we’ve included all the details below!

✈️ Our 4-Day Iceland Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavík & Blue Lagoon

Land early at Keflavík International Airport.
Relax at the Blue Lagoon (day passes include drinks + face masks).
Drive to Reykjavík, check into the hotel, and explore Rainbow Street.
Dinner at Cafe Loki to sample authentic Icelandic dishes.

Day 2: The Golden Circle

Helgufoss: A peaceful waterfall stop before heading to the main attractions.
Þingvellir National Park: Iceland’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Brúarfoss: Hidden waterfall with vivid blue waters (a must-see).
Geysir: The original geyser that gave all others their name.
Gullfoss: A massive, iconic waterfall with rainbows on sunny days.
Brúarhlöð: Lesser-known canyon area with scenic river views.
Kerid Crater: A volcanic caldera with vibrant blue water and red volcanic rock.
Return to Reykjavík for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Waterfalls, Black Sand Beaches & Puffins (Vik Region)

Urriðafoss: Iceland’s most powerful waterfall by volume.
Seljalandsfoss: Iconic waterfall you can walk behind.
Gljúfrabúi: A hidden waterfall tucked inside a cave.
Reynisfjara Viewpoint: Stunning views of the black sand beach and basalt columns.

Írárfoss: Quiet and less crowded, perfect for close-up views.
Dinner in Vik and return to Reykjavík.

Day 4: Snæfellsnes Peninsula – “Iceland in Miniature”

Gerðuberg Cliffs: A natural wall of basalt columns.
Selvallavatn ViewPoint & Selvallafoss: Stunning volcanic landscapes and hidden waterfalls.
Kirkjufell Viewpoint: Iceland’s most photographed mountain.
Búðakirkja (Black Church): A striking historic church surrounded by dramatic scenery.
Djúpalónssandur Beach: Black pebble beach with jagged cliffs and shipwreck remnants.
Lóndrangar View Point: Watch for Arctic foxes near the dramatic sea stacks.
Snæfellsjökull National Park: Glacial peaks and volcanic landscapes.
Return to Reykjavík for dinner and prepare for departure.
