Описание к видео Substance Abuse and the Brain: Gaining a Better Understanding.

In this episode, we dive into the complex world of substance abuse and its profound effects on the brain and our responses. We discuss the addictive loop people fall into with substances like opioids and alcohol. Our special guest, Dr. George F. Koob, an internationally recognized expert on alcohol and stress, and Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), shares his insights on the neurobiology of alcohol and drug addiction, and introduces us to the concept of hyperkatifeia. As NIAAA Director, Dr. Koob oversees a broad portfolio of alcohol research ranging from basic science to epidemiology, diagnostics, prevention, and treatment.
