It is widely known that technology has enabled us to start wars from afar, but can it also allow us to contribute in re-building from afar?’
UNECE has mobilised international architects to help Ukraine develop forward-looking, people-centered masterplans for its cities in order to build back better as soon as the conflict may allow it. Recognising the uncertainty of the current situation but also understanding that there is the willingness of the international community to help Ukraine and that relevant technological tools are available, a group of Italian professionals has responded to this call forming a collaborative taskforce with Ukrainian national and local governments, local experts and the civil society. The immediate outcome of this process is already visible as we are sending out a message of hope while working towards our ultimate goal which is to build back a better future together! Ana Paez is an architect and urban planner with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, and a master’s degree on Preservation of Worldwide UNESCO Heritage Sites from Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
During her career Ana has been Responsible for assisting with client interfacing, project management, transportation systems design, urban systems planning, and innovative mobility research for North American and International projects.
From 2018 to 2022 she was involved in projects within European and African contexts, such as the development of the Strategic Transport Vision 2030 for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a World Bank funded project. Currently Ana is project lead within the UN4Mykolaiv Taskforce initiative that is being promoted by UNECE. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
