"The Moving Wall" is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for thirty plus years. Stephen Vlossak, Palmerton resident and Vietnam War veteran, said he, in conjunction with local veteran organizations, arranged to have the Vietnam Moving Wall installed in the borough park from July 21-25. "It means a great deal to have this wall, and everything it represents, coming to Palmerton," Vlossak said. "It serves as a wonderful tribute to all of those who didn't come home." At the opening ceremony for The Moving Wall, Vlossak spoke of the dreams the men had - future jobs, future dates with girls or just eating ice cream, or watching TV. And when things got bad, they would say to one another, "Don't mean nothing; don't mean nothing." "We were trying to keep each other alive," Vlossak said. This is only one version of many incredible speeches given that day that evoked the true heroism, of our courageous soldiers who fought and died in Vietnam. The event was organized by the United Veterans Organization of Palmerton and sponsored by veterans' organizations in Carbon County, as well as donations from area businesses and residents. It was an honor to be able to capture this event, and show remembrance for the 58,000+ who died in service to their country.
