Cattleya Collection, Sep 2024

Hi! Welcome to my channel!

A few days ago, I uploaded a video of my Phalaenopsis collection. Now it's the turn of my Cattleyas. Most are not in bloom, but there are a couple that are. The yellow one with the star shape is Vaughnara Golden Spice, and the sunset colored one to the far right is Broanthevola Red Thompson.

There is also a Grammatophyllum scriptum dwarf variety in bloom, while the Cattleya with the large dark colored buds almost ready to open is Cattlianthe Loog Tone (red form).

The Oncidium with the long spike is Oncostele Eye Candy ‘Pinkie’.
There are also a couple of Aussie Dendrobiums, and a Cymbidium ensifolium in spike with the little buds already visible as I zoomed in.

The other Cymbidium in the other corner, the one with the white stuff on the leaves is Cymbidium Golden Elf and the white stuff is the residue of the insecticide I sprayed on its leaves when I brought it indoors last winter.

As you can see, most of my Cattleyas are bifoliate, but there are also several Richard Mueller's and Brassavola hybrids.

They are all growing on an East facing windowsill with additional light from LEDs. These LED lights are of the type for Vandas, which is very bright. As a consequence, most of my Cattleya's leaves are of a very light green color, almost yellow. It might be a little too bright for them, but Cattleyas need very bright light to flower, and so do Cymbidiums and Aussie Dendrobiums.

All these plants are potted in large chunks of bark, pumice, and lava rock. Except for the Oncidium and Cymbidium which are growing in a mix of small bark and sphagnum moss. I water only when bone dry.

Thanks for watching and I will see you on the next one!
