This is more of a late-game method for getting character materials, when you're trying to fill out crests for completion rather than getting essential crests starting out. Rendezvous Disruption scenarios are only found in the "Together to the End" and "Hero Challenge" maps.

At the start, I've marked three generic officers. The Warrior on the right, the Sniper on the left, and the Halberdier in the middle are going to head to the top row of forts to meet up with their allies.

If you whittle them down to half health or so they'll send a call for help, which will prompt one of the enemy character officers to make a Shadow clone of himself or herself. Both the Shadow and the original can be defeated for materials. After the distress call is sent, you can take down the officer who sent it. I went for this mission because it gives you 2 Liannas, 2 Rowans, and 2 Darios, whose materials are in high demand for Rowan, Lianna, Anna, Celica and Lyn.

One issue I've encountered is that AFAIK, getting a weapon drop will deny you a material drop. This wasn't a problem in Story Chapter 20 because you went through a bunch of stuff before Shadows show up. So, I try to defeat most of the officers on the way to the top row of forts to get the weapon drops out of the way, because there's a limit to how many weapons can drop in a single mission.

The other thing is that it seems harder to control whether I get gold or silver mats, compared to Chapter 20 which seems to hand out mostly silver character mats. I suspect there may be a connection to the difficulty of the map.

Side note, LOL at Darios at 4:40. I haven't seen that level of knockback since my Hyrule Warriors days.
