Kolsay Lakes National Park is located on the north slope of the Tian Shan Mountains, southeast Kazakhstan (10 km from the border with Kyrgyzstan). Often referred to as "Pearls of Tien Shan", the park's main feature are the Kolsay Lakes located between the Raiymbek District and Talgar District of Almaty Region. Lakes is of landslide-tectonic origin, approximately formed in 1887 and 1911 on the Kaindy and Kolsay rivers. UNESCO included the park to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Bartogai Lake is a man made lake and is a fresh water reservoir in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan. As it is far away from any pollution sources, it has remained relatively pristine. An enchanting Lake with magnificent view. It was formed in the early 1980s on the Chilik River at the base of the Sogety Plateau (Syugaty Hills) as part of an irrigation project. The dam was completed in 1983 and the site became operational in 1985. It collects water during the winter and spring then releases it for irrigation from June through September.
