In the constellation of automotive legends, the name Shelby radiates with a unique brilliance, casting a spotlight on some of the most iconic performance cars in history. While the association between Shelby and Ford's Mustang is well-known, there exists a hidden jewel that bears the Shelby emblem with equal pride – the Shelby Series 1. This understated masterpiece, born from Carroll Shelby's unwavering passion, stands as a testament to his boundless creativity and automotive brilliance. An embodiment of his dream to create a sports car from scratch, the Shelby Series 1 remains one of the most underappreciated classics in the automotive world.
The chronicle of the Shelby Series 1 unfolds as a passion project that Carroll Shelby himself embarked upon during the twilight of his illustrious career. In a departure from his well-documented collaborations with established automakers, the Series 1 represented Shelby's aspiration to build an impeccable sports car from the ground up. Unlike any other vehicle bearing his name, the Series 1 was a labor of love, the realization of Shelby's vision for the quintessential sports car experience. Despite its brilliance, challenges with build quality tempered its initial reception. However, time has been kind to this remarkable creation. As the years unfold, surviving Series 1 units find their worth on the rise, embraced by collectors who recognize the allure of this underappreciated classic.
Now of the 249 units only 70 of them where factory equipped with superchargers, and as I said this bumped the power up to 450HP. It also cut the 0-60 time down to a super impressive 3.2 seconds, back in the early 2000s. that’s proper supercar performance.
