“North Cape” is a storm-forged metal epic, telling the tale of the Royal Navy’s relentless pursuit and destruction of the German battleship "Scharnhorst" on December 26, 1943.
With thunderous riffs and chilling orchestration, the track unleashes the fury of HMS Duke of York, Belfast, Norfolk, and the destroyer screen led by Savage and Scorpion. At its heart, the battle is more than steel – it's a clash of command: Admiral Bruce Fraser, cold and resolute, versus Rear Admiral Erich Bey, defiant to the end.
This is the sound of naval vengeance, icebound valor, and the storm-wracked judgment of the North.

NOTE: "Schlachtschiff in Fahrt" is a German 1940 propaganda film. I chose it solely because it features real "Scharnhorst" footage. Nazi III Reich Germany was awful country, which I do not support or condone in the slightest.

* *
In polar night and winter’s grip,
A lone grey ghost begins her trip.
Scharnhorst breaks from Norway’s shore,
To hunt the convoys bound for war.
But radar eyes and Royal might,
Are waiting silent in the night.
From Scapa Flow, the trap is laid –
Fraser’s fleet will not be swayed.
Signals in the Arctic mist,
Shells ignite the endless abyss.
From Norfolk, Belfast, Duke of York –
The hunter’s course is set to fork.
Cold is the steel, colder the sea,
North Cape burns in artillery.
Scharnhorst runs, but cannot hide –
Her fate is sealed in northern tide.
Iron and fire, frost and flame,
No Kriegsmarine glory remains.
Gentlemen, this day we claim –
The gallant fall, the Royal name.
Erich Bey with courage bold,
Defies the odds in icy cold.
But radar locks and shells descend,
As Scharnhorst meets her bitter end.
Torpedoes strike from starboard side,
By Savage, Scorpion in the tide.
Then Fraser gives the final word,
As thunder from the York is heard.
The North Sea howls with death and pride,
As steel and blood and valor collide.
And as the Scharnhorst slips below –
A final message, soft and low:
Cold is the steel, colder the sea,
North Cape echoes with elegy.
Scharnhorst down, but honor held –
Her flag beneath the waves dispelled.
Iron and fire, frost and flame,
Victory carved in ice and name.
“The battle has ended in triumph true –
But fight like Scharnhorst, if it’s ever you.”
A grave of ice, a sailor's tomb,
Lit by the Arctic twilight gloom.
The sea remembers what men forget –
A duel of dread, a nation's debt.
