This quick video provides an easy way to understand and remember the arrangement of groups and periods.

👉Remember

GROUPS go UP like TREES! Think of the tall, vertical trunks of trees – that's how the groups (columns) are organized on the periodic table.

PERIODS go ACROSS like the periods at the end of a sentence. Just as you read across a line of text until you reach a period, the periods (rows) run horizontally across the periodic table.
Important Note on Lanthanides and Actinides:

Note that the Lanthanide and Actinide , despite being shown separately at the bottom for layout purposes, they are in their correct groups.

The Lanthanides actually belong to Period 6. You can see this by following the atomic numbers – there's a shift indicating their placement within the 6th row.
The Actinides correctly reside in Period 7, following the natural progression of atomic numbers in that row.
