Punta Cana Snorkeling:

Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic offers a great amount of fabulous snorkel spots. However, and this is important, not all the reefs are equally beautiful. Some of them have been damaged because of water activities and/or fishing. But there's still a lot to discover below the ocean surface, and some locations are actually pretty awesome.

If you prefer to stay ashore, consider to visit Bavaro Beach. This is a popular spot to relax, so you'll find many other tourists chilling on the beach. The good thing is that snorkeling is possible directly off the beach. You can stay in one of the resorts or just visit the area for a day.

Joining a snorkel tour is a great way to explore the marine life to it's fullest. The instructors know exactly where to spot a good amount of fish and corals. We often advise to join a trip because it's fun, but we get it, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Catalina Island is a lovely snorkel location. Some say it's the best in the Dominican Republic, but we guess that's a personal thing. There are some boat tours that take you to the island. There's a lovely beach in case you need to take a break from snorkeling.

Saona Island is also a great idea. Lots of colorful tropical fish are attracted to the area, so snorkelers should be able to enjoy themselves a whole lot. Again, a tour would be our advise for many reasons.

If you're traveling to or from Punta Cana, maybe you feel like visiting a beach that allows you to snorkel directly from the shore. In that case, do some research about Sosua Beach, Bayahibe Beach or Samana Bay.

If you snorkel in one of the vibrant Punta Cana coral reefs, expect to see the following marine life: Parrotfish, barracuda, lionfish, angelfish, clownfish, moray eels, trumpetfish and many more.
