Should you cannon slayer?

How’s it going everyone? Rargh here. Today I wanted to talk about Slayer, specifically slaying with a cannon, and whether or not it’s worth it. So let’s get right into the video and break it down.

So to begin, here is a list of tasks that still produce a profit even while utilizing your cannon. They have several drops that negate the cost of any cannonballs used. A lot of these drops are also noted or alchable, which makes looting process much, much easier.

Minions of scarabus
Dust Devils
Ice Trolls
Abberant spectres
Smoke Devils

Also, while you slay, you’ll encounter several tasks that you could cannon, but only eat away at your profits. Here is a list of most of the cannonable tasks that you will notice significant loss of money from cannonball use

Hellhounds
Kalphites
Dagganoths
Greater Demons
Fire Giants
Bloodvelds

But, with all that said, in my opinion, there are still several tasks that are worth doing, but are not cannonable. These tasks listed on screen will not only help pay for cannonballs for future tasks, but will generate you a ton of extra cash.

But Rargh, why would I want to spend so much money on cannonballs, I’m just looking for profits. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Well Billy, I’m glad you asked, let me explain.

Here’s where opportunity cost comes into effect. Opportunity cost is defined as the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen. So let me break it down like this. When you’re slaying without a cannon, you’re probably looking at an average of ~20k Slayer XP per hour. With a cannon, that number will roughly increase to about ~30k XP per hour. Keep in mind, these are averages, as every hour will differ based on your tasks. So let’s do some math to see just how many hours 99 slayer will take.

Without Cannon:
13,000,000/20,000 = 650 Hours

With Cannon:
13,000,000/30,000 = 433 Hours

650-433 = 217

So you’ll save about 217 hours, that’s a 33% decrease! Now, let’s factor in cannonballs. You’ll roughly use about 40k cannonballs for every 1M experience. Again, every task is deferent, so this may vary.

40,000 x 13 = 520,000 x 200 = 104M

So you’ll spend an extra 104M, assuming cannonballs are 200 gp ea. Spending this money saves 217 hours of tedious grind. If we break this down further, that equates to 479k per hour.

104M/217 = 479k

So, in conclusion, if you can make more than 479k an hour, use a cannon. If you can’t, don’t use a cannon. But, let’s be honest. If you spend loads on cannonballs getting high slayer, you’ll definitely be able to crush that amount.

Some helpful tips before we end the video:

Keep in mind, low level slayer will not be profitable with a cannon. You’ll probably start profiting with a cannon around 75 slayer.

If you chose NOT to cannon, try doing your tasks in the Zeah catacombs, as they have upgraded loots and other people with a cannon won’t get in your way.

As for which master to use, I generally found Nieve/Steve to be the best, as you have higher probability for cannon friendly tasks give are more cannon-friendly.
