In this episode, Michael Green, a PhD student at Duke University discusses his journey to graduate school with Alex Grant, a Master’s student at Georgetown University and Christian Buchanan, an undergraduate student from University of California State University (CSU), Fullerton who was completing a summer research internship (Los Angeles Basin Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training Program), which allowed to spend the summer doing research on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) at the George Washington University with Dr. Donaldson Conserve, the founder and director of the Black Male Professors and Researchers Collective (BMPRC) Initiative. The BMPRC Initiative https://www.bmprcinitiative.com/ is a hub to connect and support Black male professors and researchers and showcase the excellent work we are doing to inspire and support younger Black men to pursue doctoral training and become researchers and professors!

Michael has a keen interest in ameliorating the health disparities concerning preventative care for cardiometabolic conditions. Michael shares with Alex and Christian the challenges and joys of working towards completing his doctoral degree. He also discusses the PhD application process and shares information that he thought about while applying to doctoral programs.
