Being the MVP of the NFL’s biggest game is a sure way to demand big money from your team. After all, you’re delivering the goods and are who the fans are coming to see and spend their money on buying jerseys and memorabilia. While some careers can be cut short by injuries, but a long career can put money in the bank on top of all the other money already in the bank. All that money needs to go somewhere and can lead to some big money purchases. There are the usual suspects, like land and houses and cars and yachts, but some of football’s biggest stars have taken those big paychecks and turned them into even bigger paychecks. Sometimes they can even take their luxury habit and still turn it into profit, like Terry Bradshaw’s practice of flipping $5 million dollar airplanes like one would a house or car. Conspicuous consumption had an early advocate in the NFL in the form of Broadway Joe Namath and his trademark fur coats. These days big mansions and lavish lifestyles are the norm. But so is the players tendency to give back to the communities that supported them during their time on the team, either in the form of foundations or just direct donations to the community in their time of need.
