Breakfast Time for the Red tailed Hawk

Описание к видео Breakfast Time for the Red tailed Hawk

The red-tailed hawks are the most common raptors in North America, I have seen them many times, but one impressed me very much... It was a gloomy and rainy day, we set off early in the morning and arrived at the Wells Preserve in Laudholm, Maine around 7:00. there was no one else then. When we got out of the car, one red-tailed hawk flew past us holding a mouse with one of its claws, perched on a pole not far from the entrance. It stood there for a moment, then screeched repeatedly, presumably declaring its territory. I slowly approached it, appreciating its gorgeousness in all directions. It seemed to glance at me but did as if it had ignored me. Later the staff of the preserve arrived and told us that it was a young adult female who had been there for 2 years.
When we were talking with the staff at the entrance, it flew up to the top of the pavilion in front of us, still holding a mouse, startling a mockingbird in the tree next to the pavilion. The mockingbird tried to drive it away again and again (maybe the mockingbird's nest was in the tree), but it had to give up finally. After a while, the red-tailed hawk feasted on its prey. Later, I walked around the preserve, and when I came out in the rain, I saw it was still on the top of the pavilion until we left.
