I Thought Dialysis Was My Living Death Sentence | Transformation Story

Musical Score by Mello Dee Beats - https://goo.gl/tMczEr

At the age of 15 years old Bradly started having kidney issues that started him down the rabbit hole of renal failure and disease. During his sophomore year in high school, he was told he was suffering from, Glomerulonephritis (gloe-mer-u-low-nuh-FRY-tis), which essentially is the breaking down of the internals of the kidney itself. During the rest of his high school career, a lot of tests and preventative therapy was done to preserve his kidneys, but in 2005 of his second semester of college he went to total renal failure. Bradly spent 6 months on dialysis while going to college. During the day time, he spent going to class, and during the night he spent doing night dialysis. At the end of his first year in college, his mom got tested to be his donor, and they were a perfect match. So, in May of 2005, he got his first kidney transplant in OSU Wexner Medical Center. Unfortunately, after 2.5 years, the kidney started to reject and eventually failed, which resulted in him back on dialysis for the second time in 2008.

Bradly fell into a deep depression during this time and started using marijuana not only to fill the void of his emotion but also to deal with the taxing experience that dialysis has on his body. He never really dealt with his feelings being on dialysis and in fact, he was just chasing that next transplant to escape his living death sentence that was dialysis. As fate would have his best friend of 13 years got tested and was a perfect match and at the end of 2008 he received his second transplant from his best friend. Bradly’s second transplant lasted quite a while but faced the fate of his first and began to fail after 3 years. He went into complete failure in 2012.

During his time on dialysis in 2008 and he had a very frank conversation with his parents and siblings about NEVER going back on dialysis. So, when he had to go back on dialysis for the third time his family understood what time it was, and they prepared for his death and let everybody know to say their goodbyes. What changed his mind, you ask? Well, because of his kidney failure, he was retaining a lot of fluid inside his body because of the lack of urination. He was rushed to hospital with 2 liters round his heart, and all the doctors and nurses could say is, “How are you alive and walking around like nothing is wrong.” He knew right there that his wish for death had come, but death didn’t allow him to process, and he had to change his thought process about dialysis and his kidney issues. This was the first time he ever stopped and evaluated his life and what he wanted to do with his life now that death was off the table.

This is when he dug deep and finally accept his fate and the thought having to be on dialysis for the rest of his life. During those 3 years of being on dialysis he moved to California to start a company and to live his life, he got his 3rd kidney transplant from UCLA hospital and started to take his health to a whole new level. He began to jump roping, researching the proper foods and the appropriate amount of water to transition a diet to a lifestyle. This is his transformation story and inspiration to others who are struggling with any kind of illness and looking to change their life for the better.

Glomerulonephritis (gloe-mer-u-low-nuh-FRY-tis) is inflammation of the tiny filters in your kidneys (glomeruli). Glomeruli remove excess fluid, electrolytes, and waste from your bloodstream and pass them into your urine. Glomerulonephritis can come on suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic).
