When Paul Rubens asked if I would like a box of their new fourth generation watercolours to try out, of course I said yes. This film is not sponsored, so all opinions expressed are my own and I will share the positives and negatives. I will take you through the swatches of the 36 colours, show you the consistency of the paint, how to fill your own half pans if you like and compare some of the Paul Rubens colours to the ones I already use. I hope that at the end of the film you will know exactly whether this is a good watercolour set for you.

I hoped to be able to get a set to offer as a giveaway, but that was not possible, but you will see in the film that I have made a dot card. This is the fourth generation artist-grade watercolour paint from Paul Rubens and they say it is the highest quality Rubens watercolors ever produced. The majority of colours are single pigment with excellent light fastness. Of the 115 colours in the range, 76 are single pigment. This is the 36 tube set, but they do a 24 tube set as well. Please note the colours may contain ox gall, but do not contain fillers and the gum Arabic is from the Sahara.

The major downside for me is that the colours are not available individually, so should you fall in love with one and use it all up, you will not be able to replace it. There are some unusual colours in the set, which is a real plus.

The set is available on Amazon in the UK for £79.99 and in the US it is $79.99, so if you are American you can get them cheaper than us Brits! There are 36 5ml tubes of artist quality paint.

Having reviewed it, I think it is ideal for a first artist quality set If you layer and detail extensively and you don't like granulation, then it offers good value. On the otherhand If you like more textural effects, paint on a large scale or already have a good collection of paint, this is not the set for you.
