Square Lake Pirates: Tagu Jams Live Recording Session

Square Lake Pirates (‪@squarelakepirates4446‬) is one of the most exciting indie rock bands in Yangon and we are delighted to present their catchy tunes about love, daydreams and sea travel on this beautiful Valentine's Day.

This live session was recorded on January 14th, 2023 which coincidentally was their one year anniversary as a band, whose name celebrate the township that they live in -- Lay Daung Kan (literally Square Lake in Myanmar) -- and their love for the pirate anime series One Piece. It explains why they sing so much about adventures at sea.

Their music is a lively mix of indie pop and pop punk. Khaing Pwint, previously of Fun Band (a duo project with her sister), brings her sweet vocals and pop melodies to the group while Ton Ton (vocals/bass) and Nyi Linn Maung (guitar) provide their youthful energy to the band. The two guys are actually in a hip hop group called AntraX & Glux-Z as well. To compliment the trio, we invited young up-and-coming drummer Nay Chi Htun aka San Shari (she's only 18 years old and came with her own drum set) and experienced drummer Lyan Lyan on the percussions.

Square Lake Pirates played a total of 4 songs from their self-titled debut album for this live session. I hope it gives a nice mini-concert mood that we love so much.

For a decade, Tagu Films collaborated with various Myanmar independent musicians to produce music videos and live recording sessions. Tagu Music is a new step towards producing more Myanmar music contents, such as Tagu Jams, that capture the vibrant local independent music scene.
