Clumping bamboo grows very well in the Pacific Northwest. I have a grove of Robusta (a tall, upright variety) bounded by a Scabrida on either end (a variety that tends to bend a bit more). These varieties both tend to do well in full sun. Most clumpers prefer a bit of a sun/shade mix.

This is my update for 2022. Every year I post an update of my clumping bamboo grove so people can see the progress.

In this video I demonstrate how to trim clumping bamboo and I also show the new growth over a period of about two months. I also demonstrate how an in-ground border really is necessary, even for clumping bamboo. These plants get huge.
