Colt was 15-years old when he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of his allegedly abusive step dad. At the time, he had never been in trouble with the law and was a good student in school. Once he was sent to a maximum-security adult prison, Colt’s life changed forever.

After a decade behind bars and several court hearings reviewing his case, Colt was finally granted a sentence modification and was released from prison at age 25. Calamari cameras have been with Colt throughout his journey behind bars, and continues to stay in contact with him as he re-acclimates to life in a world he hasn't seen since he was a little boy.

In episode 1 of this ALL NEW SERIES, we catch up with Colt today now that he's a free man. He talks to us about what life was like that first year behind bars, and also explains the bizarre prison communication process called “cadillacing.” This “then” and “now” series— showing Colt as a young kid during his first years in prison and now at age 26 after being released–illuminates the stark reality of life behind bars for young kids who are sentenced to adult prisons, and what life looks and feels like once they are finally free.
