• “After selling most of the 1000 ‘Television Addict’ singles through independent record shops around Australia we managed to earn enough money to record again. By this time (early 1978) the band had already decided to break up (at that stage we were beginning to become quite angry and disappointed with the bass player [undoubtedly the human turd referenced on the cover -EH]) but Tony Watson was such an enormous fan that he preferred we spend the money making another record rather than pay him back. ’The Victims E.P.’ was released, with only 500 copies available and, again, we laboriously made individual sleeves rather than doing the sensible (but expensive) thing and having sleeves printed. Some of our hand-made sleeves featured elaborate collages however most others were ‘merely’ individually painted. It was a lot of work and many of them were intricate designs. The inside sleeve has a more ‘regulation’ design with black and white band photo and non-descript Letraset text. The photo was taken in the lobby of Sweet Corn Studio where the E.P. was recorded and reflects the fractured state of the band at the time. When it came time to put the photo on the E.P. we couldn’t bear to have the bass player on the cover so we covered him up with some bush baby or something like that.” -Dave Faulkner
• My copy’s painted sleeve seems like the end product of a long day’s painting session cast off and lazily or perhaps frustratedly left as a “good enough” version. I’ll take it… for now. My eyes are open for a nicer version always.
