In its early days, the Lipua Lipua orchestra was made up of members like Nyboma, Mulembu Tshibau, Kinzunga (Rickos) and many others and recorded under Vévé editions. In 1975 the members decided to form Les Kamale under Nyboma as leader and Kinzunga as lead guitarist with Mulembu on vocals and thus Les Kamale was formed.

After that, the reformed Lipua Lipua Orchestra with Vata Mombassa was the new conductor. The professor nicknamed by his colleagues for his talent in the rhythm guitar took over the group in 1974, and thanks to his wise and dynamic direction, the Lipua Lipua orchestra is proud to be one of the best groups in Africa.

In addition to being the leader of the group, Professor Vata Mombassa is very skilled with the rhythm guitar. The Lipua Lipua Orchestra had the best harmonized team of singers led by Kiloto Toko (high voice). Mbubi Malanda one of the founders of the group, Tedia, Tonele Mazisa, Nzaya Nzayadio (RIP) and registered singer/songwriter Kien' Kiesse, all these singers are known for their strong compositions.
A step back for Prof. Vata Mombassa who is considered the busiest man in this group, as a leader he has a tough job, but he still proved to be a most capable leader.
Professor Vata Mombassa's fame did not come solely from the guitar or his leadership, but also from his hit after hit composition.

Lipua Lipua broke up in the early 80s due to tensions within the band. Verckys disbanded the group, turning his attention to Langa Langa Stars. Vata Mombasa moved to Abidjan where he now lives.
