Waimea Canyon Climb - The Grand Canyon of the Pacific

This is the first 8 miles and the last 2 or 3. I took the steep route up from the town of Waimea. There are grades exceeding 15% along the way. If you're interested in this climb I posted this video for you. I can't really imagine it would be that exciting for anything besides research material.

My advice is get to the climb early enough to complete the first 8 or 10 miles before 10am. After that time the buses start bringing tourists up the hill. Make sure you have enough water. I didn't really see any along the way until I got to the meadow before the end of the climb. That's way too far from the start to consider it for aiding in the climb. There might be some fountains along the way but I didn't see any.

I wish my camera wouldn't have malfunctioned on the descent. I went back down the way I came up and there are some seriously fast sections that are thrilling if you like to go fast and terrifying if they intimidates you.

I grumble and groan from time to time but I was having the time of my life and loved every moment of the experience.
