Tango Marina ! - José M. Lucchesi (1941)

After introducing 2 songs from "Frauen im Metropol" by Ludwig Schmidseder (see the video responses below) I thought it would be fun to continue this little tour of operettas and musicals of the late 1930s and early 1940s...

In my record collection I found this rendition of Ludwig Schmidseder's "Tango Marina" from the 1938 operetta/musical "Melodie der Nacht". This tango became a very big hit at the time and many different versions exist... usuallly instrumental, the sung versions are somewhat rarer... During the Second World War "Tango Marina" crossed over to France where it was recorded by several orchestras as well as the popular singer Marie-José....

I was unable to find much information about the bandleader José Lucchesi other than that he had a prolific recording career at Disque Gramophone (HMV) and that he was related to the composer Roger Lucchesi who composed a large amount of popular songs, notably for Tino Rossi ("Maria" and many others).

For this lovely tango I decided to creat a "light" video featuring images of Paris from personal collection as well as some archive footage from the late 1930s. Pictured are : Boulevard des Italiens, the Opera, the Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge, Notre Dame de Paris, Arc de Triomphe...

After some struggles I feel this video has better volume control...
