How to paint custom sculpts

Painting custom head sculpts is always a challenge . Skin tones are challenging unless someone shares some insight.

While there are many techniques, most share the basics.

These resin heads can be primered to have the paint stick to it better.

Then a layer of flesh tone.

Then a transparent layer / or wash of yellow , followed by red / or reddish brown.. a final layer of blue to get that true skin look.

Any details can be added before the blue, such as spots, imperfections etc.

adding red wash to specific areas with a detail brush for more realism.

Pencil in the pupil for the eyes, fill with grey white, and the add the color for the pupil, the dark center of the iris. Finalize with the reflection in the top left of the eye.

The hair should always start with outlining the edge of the hair in a liner brush and the fill the rest with a large brush.

Seal all with matte clear coat.

For a final touch add a touch of gloss to the eyes and lips with Tamiya high gloss acrylic.
