Miracle Gro Grass Seed Hose End Sprayer

It's almost impossible to determine the very best time to plant your grass seed. Nature has a window for growing grass seed, but you never know when that window will present itself. The window parameters are soil temperature, air temperature and soil moisture. Tall Fescue grass seed takes 10 - 14 days to germinate and Perennial Ryegrass germinates in 4 - 7 days. That creates just enough time for the birds to find your seed for an all-you-can-eat buffet. In the past, as a work around, I would start spreading grass seed on September 1st in Maryland and re-seed every 7 days until the seed begins to sprout. That way I will never miss the window for germination.

I always thought it would be nice if I could start the germination process by soaking the seed and then spread the seed a day or so before the seed spouts. The difficult part is trying to evenly spread wet seed. Some people add it to Milorganite to make it dry enough to disperse in a spreader. I personally no longer care to use Milorganite so I never tried it.

A few years ago, I made a video about modifying a Miracle-Gro feeder to spray blended kitchen compost on my lawn (    • No need to ever wait for compost agai...   ). It worked very well so I decided to see if I could possibly spray wet grass seed using the same feeder. It didn't work at all, so I abandoned the idea. Now that the fall is here, I decided to revisit the idea. I have spent the last 30 days tweaking the idea and I'm happy to say that I have a version that works very well spraying wet or dry grass seed. The only downside is that the standard Miracle-Gro container only holds about 3/4 lbs of grass seed and also the fact that I had to purchase 15 feeders to finally get it right😒.

I may consider selling the modified end product if there is a demand for them but for now, I am testing some other related concepts. I have also ordered the Hydro Mousse system to see if it's just as good as this modified version. I'll report back with the results.
