Fredrik Olsson, RISE, has recently carried out a series of text classification experiments relating to the work of Uppsala Conflict Data Program - UCDP (https://ucdp.uu.se/) as part of an ongoing research project between RISE and UCDP. The purpose of the experiments is to assess the performance of state-of-the art text classification methods in relation to the high-quality manual event annotations produced by trained scholars from the Department of Peace and Conflict Research. The talk will walk you through the rationale behind the specification of the task, the different pre-processing steps required, as well as the different classification methods used.
