The Crossroads of the World - UNIQUE PLANE SPOTTING at Gander (YQX / CYQX)

Gander is a small town situated on the island of Newfoundland; this town had one of the most important airports in North America!
It would be an understatement to say this Gander International Airport paved the way for modern air travel as we know it today. Despite the airport not being as busy as it once was, it still plays a crucial role for technical stops for many traffics crossing the ocean; especially the U.S Air Force!

Gander is a small town located 206km northwest of St. John's and with a population of only 11,600 the small town has become an important fuel stop for traffic flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
Gander is one of the last airports with runways long enough to handle all sorts of traffic. The U.S Air Force has a large presence here with many of its aircraft using Gander as a technical stop.

With aircraft getting more fuel efficient, Gander airport has lost its importance that it once had, however the airport still sees quite a few interesting fuel stop visitors like in this video where I saw some C130's, Aruba A320 and many private jets!
The airport has became famous, and is crucial for the small town! The airport is often referred to as "the crossroads of the world".
