Each October, the nation observes National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) to recognize the vital contributions of workers with disabilities and to promote inclusive workplaces. Maryland Works is proud to join in that observance by celebrating the power of employment for all and the lasting impact it has on people with disabilities and on the State of Maryland’s economy. Through the Maryland Works Employment Works Program (EWP), our member organizations and vendor partners provide meaningful integrated employment opportunities that not only change lives but also strengthen the Maryland Economy.

According to the Towson University Regional Economic Studies Institute’s 2024 Impact Study, the EWP has provided the following benefits for Marylanders:
1. An average hourly wage of $16.64 for employees with disabilities
2. 527 full-time equivalent jobs
3. $25.4 million in labor income from these jobs
4. $68.5 million to Maryland's Gross Domestic Product
5. $8.7 million in Maryland tax revenues

Why This Matters
Behind these numbers are real people: individuals with disabilities who are gaining independence, purpose, and opportunity. National Disability Employment Awareness Month reminds us that advancing access and equity in the workplace is not just the right thing to do—it’s an investment in stronger communities and a stronger economy. By working together, Maryland Works, our vendors, and member organizations are creating pathways to employment while fueling economic growth for the entire state.
