Nelson Freimer presents the Digital Mental Health Study, a collaboration between UCLA and Apple, which involves analyzing data from over 3,000 consenting participants’ iPhone and Apple Watch devices, with the goal of identifying relationships between the data collected and standard assessments conducted by participants. The study also seeks to identify changes in individuals’ depression symptoms over time, understand the genetic contributions to digital phenotypes, and examine the accessibility and acceptability of the study in diverse research participants. He addresses the implications of conducting projects such as the UCLA-Apple study, including the challenges that exist for future scalability.
