BASF officially opens its new acetylene plant at the Ludwigshafen site. The plant starts operations with a capacity of 90,000 metric tons per year. After a transition period of several months, it will finally replace the previous plant, which went into operation in 1964.

Being equipped with WLAN in all relevant areas, the plant allows taking full advantage of digitalization. Mobile devices, for example, can be used directly in the plant to view technical information and process data.

The digital core component is a 3D model of the plant, which was used for planning and assembly as well as for training the operating team. Augmented reality has also improved the efficiency of processes such as safety walks, maintenance and repair work.
