“Today’s video blog is about functional rhinoplasty and nasal valve surgery. A lot of patients that come in and see me for surgery, whether or not it’s predominantly for a cosmetic problem or a breath problem, have something wrong with the nasal valves. In a normal situation when someone does not have a valve issue, when you try to exert your breath greater breathing ensues. In an abnormal nose, the side walls collapse inward as you take deeper breaths until you reach the point where the nasal valves collapse and you see no further increase in breathing. The goal of nasal valve surgery is so that patients can experience greater breath with greater effort. To do this we have to strengthen the weak area of the nose, or the valve area, and we have to increase the width of that region. This can be done easily with surgery”. – Dr. David Kim, rhinoplasty surgeon in San Francisco
