THE DANCE ENTHUSIAST goes behind the scenes with the hottest dance companies in New York City to share their stories.

Laura Peterson's latest work, The Futurist, represents the culmination of a meticulously researched process. The piece draws on writings from the Futurist movement, the work of Russian painter Kazimir Malevich (who ultimately moved away from the Futurist aesthetic), and ideas about aging and change over time, among other influences.

Dance Up Close, part of Engaging Dance Audiences, administered by Dance/USA and made possible with generous funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, is designed to bring online audiences closer to our New York dance community.

Through short HD Videos combining rehearsal footage with interviews, audiences are offered an uncommon entry point to the behind the scenes of movement creation. They are able to see dancers and choreographers, intimately, as people they can relate to - not only abstract figures onstage.
