"Sorrow of the Grey Lady" was written in 2026 for the 7th Heraklion Piano Festival and the performers Manos Sgouridis (Violoncello) and Elena Perisynaki (Piano). The work draws inspiration from the British legend of the Grey Lady—a silent, melancholic female figure who wanders in the liminal space between life and death. Clad in grey, a color associated with mourning, guilt, and transition, she neither threatens nor cries out. She remains in a state of continuous waiting, allowing sorrow to exist not as a dramatic outburst, but as a sustained, quiet presence. The musical structure of the work is based on the idea of the passacaglia, in which the repetition and evolution of a fundamental harmonic core convey the sense of an existence trapped within an endless cycle of memory and grief.
