This was a great scene to film, with a 1964 Massey 400 combine working well some 61 years later in a great spell of weather in summer 2025 in North Antrim. The combine was on the farm almost as long as the operator who remembers this same machine harvesting crops when he was a young child. Incredible to see this machine still going well so many years later - they definitely don't make them like they used to!

The Massey Ferguson 400 combine harvester, produced from 1960 to 1965, was a benchmark in mid-century agricultural engineering. Powered by a 72 HP Perkins A4.300 diesel engine, it featured a 295 cm header, six straw walkers, and a mechanical 3-speed transmission. Notably advanced for its time, the MF 400 incorporated hydraulic systems for reel speed adjustment and unloading auger lift—streamlining grain discharge and header control compared to earlier mechanical-only designs. With hydraulic disc brakes, a 23.6 hectolitre grain tank, and a 175-litre fuel capacity, it offered farmers a reliable, operator-friendly platform that reflected Massey Ferguson’s push toward modernization in the early 1960s.
